Exam leave?!

Several of us are in the thick of exams at the moment so Enchanted are now on a three week break from rehearsals which gives us some singing downtime before we start the serious business of tour rehearsals. No resting on our laurels, though, as Caroline aptly put it in her latest email: ‘don’t forget how to sing!’

Prior to the break, however, we performed at a Christian Aid concert in Sutton Bonington on Friday 18th May and were pleased to hear that the village raised the handsome sum of £285.  It was a varied evening of entertainment with performances from ourselves, Sutton Bonington Primary School’s music group, Sutton Bonington United choir and Jazz duo (piano and double bass, with Chris Hill on the piano).  The acoustics in the church took a bit of getting used to as we couldn’t really hear each other when we were singing which isn’t very helpful when we’re doing three and four part harmony. Consequently, some of the harmonies weren’t as harmonious as they should’ve been especially in unaccompanied pieces.  We were being videoed so hope to put a few choice snippets up here soon. There was only one awkward moment when one of the Sutton Bonington Singers sang a lovely rendition of ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ which was actually one of our planned songs for the second half.  Luckily, we were easily able to substitute it with an alternative so all was well in the end.

Regarding the mini-tour, plans are coming together for concerts at two Norfolk venues this July.  So far we are singing at Cromer Methodist Church on the evening of Saturday 28th July and then at Kings Lynn Methodist on Sunday 29th July where we’re singing a selection of sacred songs during the morning service at 10:30 (after which we are being given lunch) and then we are giving a full concert at 2:30 which will be followed by afternoon tea prepared by members of the Church choir.  How lucky are we being fed twice?!  We’re hoping to get a third concert somewhere along the way so, if anyone has any other Norfolk contacts, let us know.

Meanwhile, good luck to Sorelli di Canto (Anna-Ruth, Olivia and Caroline) who are preparing for a concert taking place at St Mary’s Church, Sileby on Saturday 26th May 7:30pm: ‘Songs for a Summer Evening’.  Tickets £7 including a glass of summer punch!

Until next time,

Enchanted
